A message from the Chief of Police...

We have been prompting residents for the past couple of years about making sure their homes and businesses were clearly marked with their 911 address. We are still seeing homes not labeled, inadequately labeled, or labeled with just an old rural route address on the mailbox. Every home and business needs to have the 911 address in large enough reflective numbers that it can be clearly seen from the street, both day and night, whether on a rural route mailbox or especially, if it is on your house. Valuable, sometimes life-saving time can be saved if every home and business is clearly labeled with its address.

Our community-policing group meets on the third Thursday of every month at the Town Office at 7:00PM. Please watch for both our newspaper ads and the postings around town announcing the meetings. I am encouraging every citizen to come and take part in this exchange of information and ideas. Originally set up as just an information sharing meeting, this current group has decided to take on organizing a children’s bicycle rodeo during Richmond’s Summer-Rec program this year, and a Child Safety Seat Check-up event during this years Richmond Days celebration. The group is always seeking new members and fresh ideas on how to most efficiently use police department resources, combined with citizen involvement, for the benefit of the entire community. Please join us at a meeting this year. I also want residents to know that they are able to schedule a Ride-A-Long with Richmond Police officers at almost any time. All interested adults must sign a liability waiver, and any person under the age of 18 must, additionally, have a parent’s permission and waiver signature.

Richmond Police can be contacted at any time, 24-hours a day. All emergencies are to be called in to 911. All other requests for police services are to be called in to our Communications Center at 737-8518. Citizens can also file complaints at the police station 24-hours a day by using the free, direct-dial lobby telephone. The department fax number is 737-5611 and our website is www.richmondpolice.org. Our website is updated monthly with current statistics and other informative links. Citizens can e-mail requests for a property check or make other non-emergency inquires or requests.
